Candler School of Theology

Candler School of Theology

Join us in continuing Emory's legacy of excellence

Candler School of Theology attracts students from 44 denominations, has one of the nation’s foremost theology libraries, and offers 17 academic degrees. No matter which degree they choose, all of our students are deeply dedicated to making a profound, positive difference in the world, and Candler equips them to address the challenges facing the church, educational institutions, and communities worldwide. Scholarship support is becoming increasingly important, both for students and their families and for institutions.

Throughout our history, Candler has been committed to helping students graduate without the worry of excessive debt, and we are maintaining this commitment as we move into our second century of scholarship and service. Gifts to our endowment help provide Candler students with the support they need. The scholarships created from these funds make it possible for our students to accept God’s call to service wherever it may lead them.

Candler’s commitment to develop church and community leaders is built on a foundation of faithful generosity. Your gift will help prepare students to serve as faithful and creative leaders for the church’s ministries in the world. Seed the Future today.

The time is now to Seed the Future

The Endowment and Candler School of Theology

Candler’s endowment—a small fraction of Emory University’s overall endowment—provides ongoing support for educational and service programs designated by donors. Of these funds, Candler donors have dedicated 54 percent to scholarships, supporting the school’s long-standing commitment to make theological education affordable.

More than 80 percent of eligible students receive financial support from Candler, but even with these resources, many students borrow substantial sums to cover living expenses, books, and health insurance. Starting salaries for clergy and other ministry professionals make repaying this debt a challenge. Gifts to increase Candler’s endowment help ease this burden.

How the endowment works

Funds in an endowment are invested for life. A portion of the return on investment is used according to the fund’s allocated purpose, while the remainder is reinvested into the principal sum to create market growth.

An endowment serves immediate needs and creates financial security for the future.
